The Society of Plastic Engineers has chosen Aerospace Engineering at Illinois graduate student Srikanth Raviprasad for a prestigious SPE Automotive Composites Conference & Exhibition (ACCE) Graduate Scholarship.
The honor was presented earlier this fall during the ACCE conference held in Detroit.
Advised by AE Department Head Philippe Geubelle and Iwona Jasiuk, professor of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Raviprasad is developing a novel polymer foam that can resist high velocity impacts. He started the project last year and currently leads the project with a team of five graduate students in performing experiments.
Simultaneously, Raviprasad is designing finite element models/codes of novel metallic structures and performing high velocity impact computations to quantify them, using design methodologies unprecedented in this domain.
The ACCE conference draws about 1,000 exhibitors, speakers and attendees to consider innovations in automotive composites. Three scholarships are awarded to fulltime graduate students pursuing degrees in polymer science, composites, plastics, or a related engineering discipline.
