Aerospace Engineering at Illinois Research Prof. Thomas L. Jackson has been elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society, Division of Fluid Dynamics.

He was cited for “pioneering research in reacting flows, especially stability analysis of compressible shear flows, and modeling and simulation of complex heterogeneous solid propellant combustion.”

Jackson came to the Urbana campus in January 1998 as the first scientist hired for the Center for Simulation of Advanced Rockets (CSAR).

Jackson earned a bachelor’s of science degree in mathematics in 1980 from Old Dominion University. He earned a master’s of science and a PhD in mathematics in 1981 and 1985, respectively, from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
