Women in Aerospace sponsors Girls Learning Air and Space Science Event

Women in Aerospace event promises rocket and glider fun for girls sixth through 10th grades!

Visitors will build and launch their own rockets and gliders, as well as learn about aerospace, spacecraft and aircraft, in the “Girls Learning Air and Space Science” event the Women in Aerospace student group will sponsor Saturday, April 9.

The free event, geared for girls from grades 6-10, will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 103 Talbot Laboratory, 104 S. Wright St., on the University of Illinois Urbana campus. Online registrations can be made at uiucwia.weebly.com. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Schedule of Events
  • 9:00-9:30 a.m., Check In and Breakfast (provided)
  • 9:30-10:00 a.m., Introduction to Aerospace
  • 10:00-10:30 a.m., Lesson on Spacecraft
  • 10:30-11:30 a.m., Rocket Design Challenge – Design, build and launch your own rocket while we see whose flies the highest!
  • 11:30-12:30 p.m., Lunch (provided)
  • 12:30 -1 p.m, Lesson on Aircraft
  • 1:00-2:00 p.m, Glider Design Challenge – Build the ultimate glider and then we’ll let them fly to see whose can carry the most weight for the longest distance!
  • 2:00-3:00 p.m., Project Fair – Check out some cool aerospace projects that U of I students are working on!
