The speaker, Basil Hassan, is the director and deputy chief research officer at Sandia National Laboratories. The title of his lecture is: Evolution of Aerospace Technologies supporting National Security Applications.

“Sandia National Laboratories is a multi-program national laboratory run for the United States Department of Energy,” Hassan said. “While its roots hail from the Manhattan Project of the 1940s, the laboratories have evolved into providing support for a wide variety of national security and energy related areas of interest to the nation. In this talk, I’ll review Sandia’s history and highlight the role that Sandia plays in the development of capabilities that address a variety of aerospace engineering applications of national importance, including energy, homeland security, and defense.”

Hassan is a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and served as its institute president for the 2020 to 2022 term. He earned his doctorate in aerospace engineering in 1993 from North Carolina State University.
