On the cover of this year's UPDate magazine is the entrance to the new Talbot Laboratory annex. It houses a small-satellite lab and the Steven R. Nagel Mission Operations Center, which are supporting space missions around The Grainger College of Engineering and beyond. It also houses an expansion of the composite manufacturing lab that will provide a focal point for advanced research and education in aerospace materials. The official ribbon cutting and tours of the new spaces will take place on September 9.
This year, AE at Illinois planned missions to Mars, built competition planes, analyzed novel aerospace materials, and made the skies quieter. The department also took concrete steps to make aerospace at Illinois a more inviting environment for all our current and future community members.
This annual publication provides but a slice of the remarkable research, scholarship, and ingenuity at Illinois. The magazine is available to download or read online.
